Population of Building No: 6
When Scott was moved into Building No: 6 at Bangkwang Prison he joined 857 other prisoners who were already imprisoned there. 707 of these men were Thai and the other 150 were from countries all over the world. After eighteen months of only being able to speak English when he had a visitor it was a relief to now be able to speak English in everyday life! The nationalities of his new friends were as follows:

The majority, 688, had been convicted of drug crimes, 135 convicted of murder, 8 of kidnap, 5 of armed robbery, 16 of sex crimes, 1 of a weapons related crime, 3 of snatch robbery and 1 of terrorism.
The sentences being served varied in length:
Life Sentence
462 of which 100 were awaiting on appeal, 227 were waiting on the Supreme Court appeal and 135 had received their final sentence.
Serving 50 Years or More
9 prisoners with 8 of those waiting on appeal and 1 having received his final sentence.
Serving 40 - 50 Years
29 prisoners of who 10 were waiting on appeal, 10 waiting on the Supreme Court appeal and 9 had received their final sentence.
Serving 30 - 40 Years
220 prisoners. 17 were waiting on appeal, 24 were waiting on the Supreme Court appeal and 179 had received their final sentence.
Serving 20 - 30 years
104 prisoners. 3 were waiting on appeal, 12 were waiting on the Supreme Court appeal and 89 had received their final sentence.
Serving 10 - 20 Years
5 prisoners who were all serving their final sentence.
Serving 5 - 10 Years
12 prisoners of who 2 were waiting on the Supreme Court appeal and 10 were serving their final sentence.
14 years had been referred by the Supreme Court and were waiting on their final sentence.
1 prisoner was waiting to be charged and 1 prisoner had received the death sentence. Although prisoners who have received the death sentence are normally kept in Buildings 2 and 5 this prisoner was in Building 6 for his own protection.
